Volaris is one of several Mexican airlines that cross the country, and while no one would call it “luxurious,” it offers a much better experience than what you’ll find on a domestic flight on US airlines.

Volaris Airlines Business Class
Mexico’s airline industry has been turbulent in recent years: a low-cost airline went under in 2009 and never recovered, and then the shocking demise of Mexicana last year. Fortunately, the country seems to have reached a point where those that remain can survive and expand. More locals fly and the prices are good.

I recently flew Volaris from Mérida to the Toluca airport in Mexico City. I originally bought a round trip ticket, but flights days later were canceled, without a good explanation as to why, and I had to book the return trip on Interjet. (More on that airline later.) However, other than that initial booking issue, the process was easy. The site is in English and Spanish. Three of us were able to check one bag each for free and the check-in process at the airport was quick and friendly, with real people, not machines. They smiled and offered us our choice of seats. In other words, the aerial experience that we used to live and normally expect.

The Volaris flight experience
There are only coach seats on the plane, but in nice leather seats on a wide-body jet. Seat pitch was pretty average for the economy, but the unique placement of the reading material tray at chest level instead of knee level adds a couple of inches. The signs indicated electrical outlets under the seat, but I didn’t have a cord with me to test it.

There is no magazine on board, but attendants hand out headphones to watch television in Spanish. A drinks cart soon appeared with a wide variety of non-alcoholic drinks. (It was early in the morning; they may offer beer and cocktails later in the day.) My daughter squealed with joy when she saw the snack they were giving us: Krispy Kreme donuts!

The service was cheerful and the smiling attendants were not too harassed. So there really is little sign that this is a “budget” airline and a Volaris airlines Business First Class flight is certainly better than a domestic flight on almost any US airline. There were some ads on three overhead luggage panels, but for Coca-Cola company water, and we all ended up with a free can of their iced tea before disembarking, so not a bad trade-off. They also had a basket of candy to choose from as we got off the plane. Good touch.

Volaris flies to more than 20 cities in Mexico through its hub in Toluca, on the outskirts of Mexico City. It also flies to several locations in the US, including San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago. Through those locations you can transfer to partner flights on Southwest. Cheapest Volaris flight reservation

Finding the cheapest flight booking can be a little tricky, but there are some tips that can help you save money:

Be flexible with your travel dates: Flights are usually cheaper during off-peak times, so consider traveling during the week instead of weekends, or during shoulder season instead of peak season.
Compare prices: Use a travel search engine like Kayak or Skyscanner to compare prices between various airlines and travel websites.
Book early: Flights tend to be cheaper when booked well in advance, so try to book your flight as early as possible.
Consider budget airlines: Budget airlines like Spirit or Frontier Airlines offer lower prices, but may charge additional fees for things like checked luggage and in-flight meals.
Use airline rewards programs: Joining an airline’s rewards program can help you earn points or miles that can be used on future flights.
Search for promotional codes and deals: Search for promotional codes and discounts on airline websites as well as third-party travel websites.
Consider alternative airports: Flying to smaller or secondary airports can sometimes be cheaper than flying to major airports.
Remember that the cheapest flight may not always be the most convenient or comfortable option, so be sure to weigh the costs and benefits before making a reservation.
